Oahu is the most (unfairly) cliched of the Hawaiian Islands, but outside the tourist crush of Waikīkī, is a place of delightful surprises and awesome nature, with enough remote beaches and vacant trails to keep a solitude-seeking adventurer occupied for years.
I spent a few days there recently, my first in 25 years. With a fellow open water swimmer as my life/travel partner, we communed with the ocean as much as possible, of course. And there is so much wonderful ocean here.
